Hastening to Do Good
On the authority of Ibn Mālik – al-Hārith ibn al-Ḥārith – al-Ashʿarī, may God be well pleased with him, who reported that the Messenger of God, God’s blessings and peace be upon him, said: ‘The act of purity is half of faith and “praise be to God” fills the scale, and “glory be to God and praise be to God” fill what is between heaven and earth. And the prayer is light, charity is proof, [and] patience is brightness, while the Qur’ān is proof for or against you. All people strive for their own souls: there are some who sell their souls, and free them while others lead them to destruction.’
